Gidan Bege "House of Hope"
Street Children
There are many kinds of children on the streets. Some are in various religious schools and spend time begging on the streets. Some are orphaned and without a home and some have homes but spend their days living on the streets. Others are on the street because their life is threatened by being involved or thought to be involved in the occult.
The Gidan Bege staff and volunteers visit the street children and invite them to Gidan Bege every Thursday for a meal of rice and beans. During these programs the children are welcomed into a safe place and shown the love of Christ. Children desiring to get off their life on the streets are screened and if they appear sincere, an attempt is made to contact their parents and then place them at Gidan Bege for a four to six month trial period before transferring them to one of the other care centers. A Christian environment is provided for the children to begin learning about what it means to be a Christian. They are also started in a self-paced educational program and integrated into the local community and church life. The goal is to place these children into Christian homes or reintegrate them into their own homes.
