Evangel Hospital is a 150-bed general hospital located in Jos, Nigeria. Founded by the Sudan Interior Mission, now SIM, in 1959, Evangel is now under the auspices of the Evangelical Churches of West Africa (ECWA).
Evangel provides high quality medical care. It is also active in medical education, providing several types of training, but most notably a nationally accredited general practice residency program. Evangel also provides inpatient and outpatient therapy for children and adults. Thanks to the donations of many people, I was able to buy an exercise bike, treatment table, walkers, crutches, and a wheelchair for the department. I have also received donations of hand splints, knee splints, lumbar supports, as well as cash donations.
We see so many burn patients at the hospital, due to open fires for cooking and heating water, as well as explosions from kerosene stoves and other accidents. At this time, there are no pressure garments available to help decrease scarring as the patient heals. Presently, I am working to open a burn clinic that would be able to provide pressure garments for the many burn patients that we treat.
