I work as an Occupational Therapist at Evangel Hospital. I work mainly with children who have injuries such as burns, fractures, developmental delays, head injuries and other problems. I also work with adult outpatients who have hand injuries or who have had a stroke.
My main project has been setting up the playroom in the pediatric unit at the hospital. When I visited the hospital in 2002, I observed that the children were just lying in their beds starring at the ceiling. They had no toys or fun activities to help them get through the day. When I returned to Nigeria in 2003, I brought toys and games that many people had donated and set up a playroom for the children. It has been great to walk into the children’s unit and see the smiling faces of the children as they are playing in the playroom. I also provide therapy for street children and handicapped individuals at a ministry center called Gidan Bege (House of Hope). Gidan Bege is an ECWA (Evangelical Church of West Africa) / SIM ministry in the city of Jos. Transition House, a care center for street children and orphans, is one of the ministries of Gidan Bege. I work at Transition House, leading a discipleship class for boys age twelve to fourteen, as well as working in the library helping the boys learn to read English.
